The Jets have their own playing-time question. Geno Smith was held out of New York's preseason opener after dealing with a sore ankle, but he returned to practice. Head coach Aaron Glenn has indicated that live preseason work can be valuable when players are healthy enough to receive it.
Jets running back Breece Hall left Monday's practice with a groin issue. Aaron Glenn indicated the initial belief was that the injury was not serious, but Hall's status is another reason bettors should verify personnel information before treating an early preseason opinion as final.
Panthers-Jaguars deserves attention because Jacksonville has provided useful information about its approach to the week. Jaguars head coach Liam Coen said Monday that the team was likely to play starters Friday as Jacksonville continues preparing for the regular season.
That does not automatically create a betting side. It does, however, give bettors an important piece of the preseason puzzle. The number of drives played by starters, which starters are actually active and how quickly Jacksonville transitions into its reserve units still matter.
Jacksonville enters the matchup after a 24-20 preseason-opening victory at New Orleans. The Jaguars also scheduled joint work with Carolina during training camp, creating another layer to the preparation week before Friday night's game.
Green Bay travels to Denver for its second preseason contest after dropping its opener 28-9 against Pittsburgh. Friday will be the 12th preseason meeting between the Packers and Broncos and the fourth consecutive preseason meeting between the clubs played in Denver.
The opener provides context, but preseason results should not automatically be projected into the following week. Personnel usage can change substantially from one exhibition game to the next, especially as coaches move closer to final roster decisions.
Green Bay and Denver therefore require another fresh evaluation: quarterback workloads, which veterans dress, offensive-line combinations and how long the primary units remain on the field can all change the matchup once final plans become clearer.

Regular-season NFL analysis can lean heavily on established quarterback play, efficiency, injuries, matchup strengths, key numbers and situational factors. Preseason football adds another major variable: uncertainty about who will actually be on the field.
