College Football Picks Today: 5 Saturday Matchups – October 10, 2026
Saturday's ASA board features five conference matchups spanning the Big Ten, SEC, Mountain West and Pac-12, highlighted by Maryland visiting No. 5 Ohio State, No. 10 LSU traveling to Kentucky and No. 23 Boise State facing Fresno State in the late window.
Five Matchups on the ASA Radar
Illinois at Michigan State
Illinois Fighting Illini at Michigan State Spartans
Illinois travels to East Lansing needing a conference response. The Fighting Illini enter 2-3 overall and 0-2 in Big Ten play, while Michigan State gets a Homecoming environment for Saturday's matchup.
Illinois has also undergone an important defensive change. Roger Cooper is now serving as interim defensive coordinator, and the early results showed improvement against Purdue. The Illini allowed season lows of 90 rushing yards and 255 passing yards in that game.
The question is whether that improvement represents the beginning of a legitimate defensive correction or simply one better performance. Explosive plays remain an issue Illinois must address against Michigan State.
Watch whether Illinois can maintain its improved run defense while eliminating explosive passing plays. For Michigan State, the key is converting home field into sustained offensive efficiency rather than relying on the Homecoming environment itself.
Maryland at No. 5 Ohio State
Terrapins at Buckeyes
Maryland heads to Columbus at 2-3 overall and 0-2 in Big Ten play after beginning the season with victories over Hampton and UConn. The Terrapins have since dropped three consecutive games.
Ohio State returns home after a 31-14 victory at Iowa. The Buckeyes' top-five ranking, home field and recent defensive performance create an obvious perception advantage, but those same factors can also create an expensive betting number.
Maryland's challenge is maintaining drives and avoiding the negative plays that can quickly turn a road game in Ohio Stadium into a one-sided matchup. Ohio State, meanwhile, must avoid allowing a large favorite role to create a flat performance.
This handicap is less about identifying the stronger team and more about determining how much superiority has already been priced into the spread. Maryland's ability to sustain drives becomes critical if the Terrapins are receiving a substantial number.
No. 10 LSU at Kentucky
LSU Tigers at Kentucky Wildcats
LSU travels to Lexington after climbing back into the AP top 10. The Tigers are coming off a 63-14 victory over McNeese and now return to SEC competition for a much different road challenge.
Kentucky enters with momentum of its own after a dramatic 35-34 overtime victory at South Carolina. The Wildcats won by converting a two-point attempt in overtime, providing a significant emotional lift heading into their home matchup with LSU.
Lexington has also been a difficult destination for LSU in recent history. The Tigers lost 42-21 there in 2021, and their last victory at Kroger Field came all the way back in 2002 on the famous Bluegrass Miracle.
LSU's 63-point performance should not be projected directly into an SEC road game. Kentucky's ability to make the Tigers earn long drives—and LSU's ability to avoid allowing the Wildcats to hang around into the fourth quarter—are more meaningful than last week's final scores alone.
Air Force at Northern Illinois
Falcons at Huskies
Air Force and Northern Illinois meet for the first time in program history, and the matchup carries additional significance because it is Northern Illinois' first Mountain West conference game after officially joining the league in July.
Air Force enters 3-1, its best start since the Falcons opened the 2023 season 8-0. That early success makes this an important road test against an unfamiliar opponent.
The Air Force offense also creates a preparation challenge because opponents must devote practice time to assignments and discipline that differ from a typical weekly defensive plan.
Assignment discipline is critical against Air Force. Northern Illinois must avoid allowing one missed responsibility to become an explosive play, while the Falcons must prove their early-season success travels against a new conference opponent.
No. 23 Boise State at Fresno State
Broncos at Bulldogs
No. 23 Boise State heads to Fresno after beating Utah State 37-18 last Saturday. The Broncos now face a Fresno State program that has recently had considerable success in this series.
Fresno State has won each of the last three meetings, including a convincing 30-7 victory in 2025. The Bulldogs also won 37-30 in 2023 and 28-16 in the 2022 conference championship game.
That recent history makes this more interesting than a simple ranked-versus-unranked matchup. Boise State enters with the national ranking, but Fresno State has repeatedly demonstrated that it can compete with—and beat—the Broncos.
Do not let Boise State's ranking outweigh the matchup history or home environment. At the same time, past Fresno State victories do not automatically create value in 2026. Current personnel, form and the available number must decide the wager.
Five Variables That Matter Across This Board
1. Ranked-Team Pricing
Ohio State, LSU and Boise State all carry national rankings. Rankings attract attention, but bettors still have to determine whether the market price is justified.
2. Conference Road Games
Maryland, LSU, Illinois, Air Force and Boise State all travel. Road execution becomes especially important once crowd noise, field position and momentum begin affecting the game.
3. Don't Chase Last Week
LSU scored 63, Ohio State won at Iowa and Boise State beat Utah State by 19. Those results matter, but markets also adjust quickly to impressive performances.
4. Familiarity vs. Unfamiliarity
Boise-Fresno comes with extensive recent history, while Air Force-Northern Illinois is the first meeting ever. Those situations require very different handicapping approaches.
5. Situational Emotion
Michigan State has Homecoming, Kentucky just won an overtime thriller and Northern Illinois is playing its first Mountain West game. Emotion matters most when it translates into execution.
Price Is Still the Final Test
ASA separates picking the likely winner from finding the strongest betting value. The better football team is not automatically the better wager at the current number.
LSU at Kentucky: Ranking vs. Road Reality
LSU brings a top-10 ranking and a 63-point performance into Lexington, while Kentucky enters after an emotional overtime road victory. The Tigers are the higher-profile team, but LSU has not won in Lexington since 2002. That does not predict Saturday's result by itself—it reinforces why road environment, matchup and price deserve more weight than ranking alone.
Recheck final injury information, quarterback availability, weather and current betting numbers before finalizing the card. Saturday markets can move significantly between the middle of the week and kickoff, especially when late personnel information becomes available.
Five Saturday Games — Only Qualified Value Makes the Card
Saturday provides five different handicapping situations: Illinois trying to correct its Big Ten start, Maryland facing a top-five Ohio State team, LSU entering a difficult SEC road environment, Northern Illinois making its Mountain West debut against Air Force and Boise State attempting to end Fresno State's three-game series winning streak. ASA premium selections are reserved for the games where matchup, current information and price align strongly enough to qualify.
